A last minute entry! I was inspired by the other entries to enter anyway
I wanted to create a colorful and original entry. I think I did well ^_^
Never before have I looked into Tarot cards. This contest required me to do so however. When looking through the cards and their meaning the card of "The Hanged Man" grabbed my attention. Mainly because of it's meaning as described on wikipedia:
"The solemn expression on his face traditionally suggests that he is there by his own accord, and the card is meant to represent self-sacrifice more so than it does corporal punishment or criminality."
I felt that this description perfectly suited the look on the face of the star. Which inspired me to make the star upside down, just like the hanged man in the original tarot card. The background in the card being a sky at sunrise. The moon and stars sacrifice themselves to allow the sun to rise, birds to fly and steampunk hot air balloons to make their journeys.
Making this took more time, and was trickier than I had expected. Especially the cutting out of all the ropes on the balloons was a lot of work! I am glad I took the time though, I am very happy about the end result
